Thursday 24th May:
18.00: OPENING CONCERT, Hardanger Hall, Hotel Ullensvang, NOK 250,-
Grand opening of Hardanger Music Festival 2012. With performing artists Simon Trpčeski (piano), Isa Gericke (soprano), Helge Jordal (Norwegian actor), Nordic Voices (a cappella ensemble), Frank Rolland (Hardanger fiddle) and young folk dancers from the Hardanger region.
Statkraft's Young Star Scholarship is awarded to a young aspiring performer of classical music.
Friday 25th May:
10.00 -13.00: MUSICAL WALK IN LOFTHUS VILLAGE, NOK 250.-
Enjoy chamber music performed in historic houses in Lofthus.
• 10.00 and 11.00: "Skrivargarden", The Magistrate's House: Nordic Romance performed by Stig Nilsson (violin) and Wolfgang Plagge (piano).
• 10.00 and 11.00:"Jåstadstova", a 14th century house from Jåstad: Folk music performed by Frank Rolland (Hardanger fiddle) and Rannveig Djønne (melodeon/accordion).
• 12.00: "Krossvoll", the Village House:Edvard Grieg's String Quartet in G minor, which was composed in Lofthus, is performed by Oslo String Quartet.
16.00: PIANO VIRTUOSO SIMON TRPČESKI, Hardanger Hall, Hotel Ullensvang, NOK 250.-
The internationally acclaimed piano virtuoso performs selected pieces.
18.00: NORDIC VOICES PERFORMS AT THE LOCAL PUB, NOK 100.-
A cappella ensemble Nordic Voices performs at "Ekspedisjonen" Pub in Lofthus.
20.30: INTERNATIONAL BALLET GALLA, Sima Power Station Hall, Eidfjord, NOK 300.-
Highlights of classic and modern ballet are performed by soloist dancers from the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet: Yolanda Correa, Yoel Carreño, Maiko Nishino, Richard Suttie, Chihiro Nomura, Kristian Ruutu, and student at Oslo National Academy of the Arts: Yukiko Yanagi. Presenter Ellen Kjellberg.
22.00 - 23.00: "MAGIC HOUR", Ullensvang Church, Lofthus, NOK 250.-
A variety of expressions is tenderly communicated through both old and new music.With Per Flemstrøm (flute), Fredrik Fors (clarinet), Audun Breen (trombone), Oslo String Quartet and a cappella ensemble Nordic Voices.
Saturday 26th May:
9.30: WALK IN EDVARD GRIEG'S FOOTSTEPS, Lofthus, NOK 250.-
Well known 4th generation manager of Hotel Ullensvang, Mr. Utne, introduces composer Edvard Grieg's Lofthus. Music is performed at intervals along the walk. The ticket comprices the Grieg Concert at 12.00.
12.00: GRIEG CONCERT, "Komponisten", Hotel Ullensvang, NOK 150.-
There is a short introduction to Grieg's music in general and the pieces performed. With Isa Gericke (soprano), Kristian Lindberg (piano) og Frank Rolland (Hardanger fiddle).
12.00: CHAMBER CONCERT, Eidfjord Old Church, Eidfjord, NOK 200.-
With Silje Hveem (flute), Gjermund Fredheim (guitar), Anders Kjellberg Nilsson (violin), Ida Bryhn (viola) and Audun Sandvik (cello).
14.00: «HIMMELSKE FADER» - HEAVENLY FATHER, Tyssedal Power Plant, NOK 250.-
A cappella ensemble Nordic Voices performs music under the title "Heavenly Father". A central theme is the dream of a heaven and a better afterlife.
15.00: OSLO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA, Hardanger Hall, Hotel Ullensvang, NOK 300.-
Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jukka Pekka Saraste, with soloist Guro Kleven Hagen (violin) perform Lars Erik Larsson's Pastoral Suite, Mendelssohn's Violin Concert and Beethoven's Symphony No 2.
18.00: OSLO STRING QUARTET PERFORMS AT THE LOCAL PUB, NOK 100.-
Oslo String Quartet performs at "Ekspedisjonen" Pub in Lofthus.
21.00: FESTIVAL NIGHT BY THE FJORD, Hardanger Hall, Hotel Ullensvang, NOK 250.-
Local choir and school band perform together with professional artists. With local choir Chorus 80, Ullensvang School Band, Lars Klevstarnd (singer-songwriter), Audun Breen (trombone), Stig Nilsson (violin), and Tine Thing Helseth (trumpet).
21.00: MEMORIES OF ITALY, Kinsarvik Church, Kinsarvik, NOK 250.-
Music by Hugo Wolf, Ottorino Respighi and Pyotr Tchaikovsky performed by Isa Gericke (soprano), Oslo String Quartet, Ida Bryhn (viola) and Audun Sandvik (cello).
Sunday 27th May:
9.30: «FROM DAWN TILL DUSK», Agatunet, Aga, NOK150/250.-
Guided tour and concert in Agatunet, one of very few remaining farm villages in Norway. A cappella ensemble Nordic Voices performs music "From Dawn til Dusk", a journey from morning till evening, from awakening till dreaming.
Departure boat transfer from Hotel Ullensvang 9.30.
11.00: PENTECOSTAL CHURCH SERVICE WITH FOLK MUSIC, Ullensvang Church, Lofthus
Folk musician Rannveig Djønne has composed the liturgical music used during this service. Local and established folk musicians participate.
13.00: «JUMPING WIDE» - FROM BEETHOVEN TO ABBA, Hardanger Gjestegard, Alsåker, NOK 200.-
With Oslo String Quartet and Isa Gericke (soprano).
15.00: «OM KJÆRLEIK» - ABOUT LOVE, Gallery N. Bergslien, Eidfjord, NOK 200.-
Tine Thing Helseth (trumpet) and Kristian Lindberg (piano) perform music about different kinds of love.
15.00: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE NAVVIES, Lilletopp, Tyssedal, NOK 200.-
Performed by Helge Jordal (actor), Lars Klevstrand (singer-songwriter) and Rannveig Djønne (melodeon/accordion).
15.00: «DIN VEG» -YOUR WAY, Kinsarvik Church, Kinsarvik, NOK 250.-
Lyrics by Hardanger poet Olav H. Hauge, music by Knut Kristiansen. Performed by Reidun Horvei (folk singer), Einar Mjølsnes (Hardanger fiddle), Geir Botnen (piano), Magdalena From Delis (dance).
17.30: BACH AND SCHUBERT CONCERT, Ullensvang Kyrkje, Lofthus, NOK 250.-
Schubert's String Quintet in C major and Bach's Cello Suites are performed by Stig Nilsson (violin), Anders Kjellberg Nilsson (violin), Ida Bryhn (viola), Torleif Thedéen (cello), and Audun Sandvik (cello).
21.00, SURPRISE CONCERT, Hardanger Hall, Hotel Ullensvang, NOK 300,-
The popular surprise concert with the festival's performing artists in an informal setting, is full of twists and turns, and offer rare musical moments.
Monday 28th May:
11.00: FINAL CONCERT, Hardanger Hall, Hotel Ullensvang, NOK 250.-
Piano Trio No. 2 composed by Shostakovich is performed by Simon Trpčeski (piano), Anders Kjellberg Nilsson (violin) and Torleif Thedéen (cello). Tine Thing Helseth (trumpet) and Kristian Lindberg (piano) end the program of Hardanger Music Festival 2012.
